Where to start from?

A childcare worker/ an Educator  is someone who cares for children when parents and other family members are unavailable. They care for children’s basic needs as well as supporting their holistic development and learning. They care for children in childcare centres, their own home, or the homes of the children in their care. And in this case, you will be the future ‘They’.

The utmost important step is to start looking out for genuine Registered Training Organisations who can guide and assist you appropriately in order to achieve this qualification. This qualification is suitable for a wide range of learners including:

  • pupils from mainstream schools or other education establishments,
  • school leavers,
  • college students wishing to develop their skills and knowledge in relation to early learning and childcare,
  • trainees participating in preparation for entering employment,
  • Or those looking for a change in career and would be keen to work with children.

But before you make up your mind, it is vital to have a clear vision and make yourself mentally prepared for this industry as the basic skills you would be expected to have are your enthusiasm for children, effective communication and decision making skills, interpersonal skills, creative/imagination skills and physical stamina.

Even though there is a big pond of Institutes that offer this course, it is crucial to go through appropriate counselling in order to ensure that you end up enrolling into an RTO that complies with all the legal laws and regulations. This can be done by researching online, making a list and then proceed through the list one by one while contacting them via phone or going in person.

Once you have found that ‘right’ RTO, your next step would be to ensure that you have been informed about the mode of delivery (online, face to face or mixed), fees structure (Government funded/self-funded), the course duration and requirements to qualify for this course such as work placement (which will be explained further). As soon as you have a direction to proceed towards (after enrollment), you must now also commit to attending the classes (as stated in your student handbooks/enrollment documents) and start this promising journey !
